A Transformation in mute tones

This home in Connecticut was built in the 18th century. But thanks to the minimalist palette, it radiates a light, modern feel. A pop of fresh and juicy green – from the apple-filled table centrepiece – creates a simple, effective accent.

Tone on tone

Cosy armchairs, carved candle holders and antique wooden furniture – despite its rustic elements, this living room feels fresh and elegant thanks to its complementary cream tones. A rich, dark-wood floor emphasises and anchors the interior’s light colours.

Sensible spaces

The kitchen shouldn’t just be a functional space – it should provide comfort and pleasure as well. This Connecticut kitchen features a wall of large windows that flood the area with natural light and provide a fabulous view of the garden – so the eyes have something to feast on too.

Playful details

This vintage dresser works as a contrast to the white staircase, while oversized dominos and antique bowling pins evoke memories of the home’s classic charm.

Calming hideaway

The rustic iron-framed bed and fresh, white textured linen sheets create a soothing ambience. Simple details such as a small bedside lamp and fresh flowers add a final romantic flourish.

Nostalgic haven

The charming bathroom with rustic iron tub and petite dressing table could have been lifted straight from a Jane Austen novel. Fresh flowers from the garden are a fragrant addition to this light-filled haven.

Pure and romantic

The spacious garden encourages visitors to stroll and relax in its surroundings. Only white flowers have been planted to complement the exterior of the house and to act as accents to the lush green foliage. At night they reflect the moonlight beautifully and are visible long after dark.

Small contrasts,
great effect

You don't necessarily need to splash bold blossoms everywhere to create a classic country style. Break the rules a little with a discreet, white arrangement - like the one shown on the left. Have fun and create a look that contrasts between delicate flowers and unusual holders. These old pharmacy bottles ooze vintage charm when combined with Calla lilies or a bunch of tulips. Note: for best effect, limit one type of flower to one vase.

Arranged in a simple fashion, flowers can be utterly charming in antique rooms
